First build - Any recommendations?

rndmgamer

Budget (including currency): 2000CAD

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

  • Gaming -1440p / High refresh rate / High settings. Forza Horizon5 / Elden Ring / Monster hunter/ Cyberpunk / RDR2 etc

  • Sim Racing - Assetto Corsa / Project Cars 2 / iRacing

  • VR - Beat Saber/Half-Life: Alyx

  • Utility - Office suite / Cadd / Cam / 3D designing

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

The major concern I have is choosing between R9-5900x and R7-5800X3d. I don't want to go with AM5; I want to stick with AM4 (A friend of mine built a PC with a similar budget with 7700x, and he already hates it. Constantly crashing). I will be upgrading the storage to a better Samsung SSD later down the line. Case and fans are not included. It is separate from the budget. (probably gonna buy LianLi O11D). I will hooking it up to 2 monitors. 34" Ultrawide and and 27" SD monitor ( i will be reusing it from my current laptop gaming setup) This budget is just for the PC and nothing else.

That is unfortunate that you have this opinion on the 7700x, your friend needs to try to figure out what the problem is.  I have had multiple CPU's since 2001, AMD and Intel and I am currently running a 7700x and I will say that I have never been this happy with a CPU.  And I have had A LOT of CPU's throughout the years. Built 5 systems with 7700x for other people and they work without any problems at all.   I also do a lot of sim racing 🙂 Anyways.
Your build looks good, the 5800X3D will be the superior gaming CPU but the 5900X might be better for your 3D design applications.   You seem to be playing quite demanding games so I would go with the 5800X3D.

then just get LGA 1700? if you want a tried and tested platform LGA 1700 qualifies that criterion while still having a upgrade path to intel 14th gen which will "tread water against Zen 5". also, LGA 1700 CPUs like the i5 13500 and i7 13700 ill offer great value because of their MT horsepower (which is comically more than Ryzen 5000 series CPUs). about the 5800X3d, its easy to get swayed by the graphs but that CPU is USELESS because ALL modern CPUs can handle GPUs unto the 3080 without even being the bottleneck and given that you are playing at 1440p, any modern CPU can keep up, even the i3 12100

a list for the same-

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/ZdN2JM

in this list you already have a high-quality SSD so no need for a upgrade in the future

                                                                    OR

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/wd8zQ6

downgraded the SSD and CPU by a huge margin for a faster GPU

Maybe I’m miss understanding you, but 14th gen will not use LGA 1700.

there has been a change of plans, 14th gen is no longer meteor lake but instead raptor lake-s which is just a raptor lake refresh. so it has NO reason to be on LGA 1851

The rumors are still saying that 14th gen will use LGA 1851, disappointing, but not surprising.
