Good day. How do I cool my aging cpu i7-8700, I am using a Thermalright AK120 5 Heat Pipe Tower Cooler on the cpu installed with Static Pressure Arctic fans in a push-pull config. But the latest AAA games its reaches 90+C then the fans kick in at 100% brought it down to the 80's C. I can't put fans on topof the case cause the tower would get in the way

Would a dual tower or a 240 AIO tame it? My case is a bit small for a MatX. A Cube style case. Tecware Quad TG.

I have to ask, the 2 fans on the tower are all facing the same direction right?

For a tower that thin, I doubt 2 fans would do anything different, singlet fans would do just fine, and is there any intake fans on the case?

also when did you get the tower? thermal paste might need to be replaced

The cooler should be a good match for the 8700, so maybe bad TIM or it's not correctly mounted...

just 1 fan as @Dukesilver27- says, and that config pretty much just keeps the hot air pockets in. you want the config to be fully in 1 direction.

 

Also check pressure evenness as @_Omega_ says.

what you could do is delid it..  to apply liquid metal and reseal it.  that should drop it by 20C .

no it is one direction out the back, my i intake is a 200mm fan at the front runs at 70% for lower noise.

Then I'd check the thermal paste if you haven't replaced it within the last 2 years.

Check mounting pressure while you're at it. 

And see if 1 fans would do better, in most cases 2 fans on a single tower does not make it cool better.

just recently got the proc from an i5-8600, i used a cheap CM paste dot method.

would a better paste make a difference like an MX4?

Paste quality does not make much difference, maybe 1 or 2 degrees at most. 

So I'd guess the mounting pressure is bad.
