Hey guys. I'm building a new pc right now and I have no clue what card to get. I know I'm going NVidia but I'm having a hard time choosing between getting a 4000 series or a 3000 series.

I feel like the 4000 is the best option looking at prices right now. I play mostly in 1440p but sometimes I do play 4k depending on the game. The thought was to go for a 4070ti but I'm not sure if I should get that or if I'd be better off just grabbing the 4080. I have a 1080Ti right now so either would be a good upgrade. Just was looking for some other opinions before pulling the trigger.

Its all comes down to how much you are comfortable spending.  I absolutely love my RTX 4080 even if the value per frame is not the best compared to other cards. I dont regret spending full price on it back in November on launch, It does 1440p 144hz gaming easily and that is all I want, I know it will run it and I never have to worry about tweaking settings. The 4070ti is also a great card with good performance.  What CPU are you planning on pairing with the GPU?

If you have to go with Nvidia, and you care about value, then unfortunately, the 4070Ti is likely going to be the best price/performance product at its $800 MSRP. Also unfortunately, it's getting a bit hard to find for $800, but it's not that rare to see it there.

The 3060 Ti at $400 is about the only 30 series card worth considering from a value standpoint - but it's not a ton better than what you have now. The 3080 and up have basically vanished from existence. The 3070 and 3070Ti are basically never available at MSRP, and even if they are, the 3060Ti is better value and not a ton slower.

The 4090 is probably the second best 40 series option if you can find it at $1600 - the value isn't actually that bad, and you're getting the best card in the world in terms of performance, so that helps stomach the price. The 4080 is poor value in comparison.

I'd say that if you intend to still do 1080p, and you just want to do RT and have better performance, go with the 3060 Ti. If you want high-end 1440p gaming, go with the 4070 Ti, and if you want high-end 4K+ gaming, or just literally the best thing in the world, go with the 4090.

sorry I meant 7700

Oh then heck yeah! 😄  That's a fantastic CPU.  I paired my RTX 4080 with my 9900k@5.1ghz overclock and it was a terrible stuttery mess, the 9900k couldn't keep up.  I swapped to a 7700x and its smooth as silk, all stutters are gone and performance is fantastic 🙂
