A strange problem, my pc only detecting 8 gigs of ram ( bios and windows ) instead of 16, when I put the ram in B1 or B2 it hangs on the ram led ( a b450 tomahawk max )  at the moment I have both sticks in A1 and A2, could it be the memory controller?  also how much of a performance hit would I lose in having it in single channel?

it can be a problem with the controller, but it can also be a problem with the motherboard, anything from broken slots to bad contact in the CPU socket.

it's significant. I recommend inspecting the CPU for any physical damage, and reseating to make sure the mounting is proper, ensuring all the pins are making contact.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.
