Help upgrading existing build

Go to solution Solved by Penpilot,

so the upgrade list is-

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/VX7dk9

i swapped the CPU, the power supply and added a new SATA SSD so that you don't have to load games off of a hard drive and added a new GPU

i made this list thinking that you will use the 5700xt as paper weight or sell it of because the power supply cant handle them both,

if you have a bit more budget, get a 6800xt but if you have a lot more then get a 4070TI. these alone plus th cpu the power supply can handle

Hey everyone,

I'm just curious as to whether it would be possible to upgrade my existing pc to be able to play the below games at 4k60 on ultra settings without having to completely rebuild my pc? I'd also like to be able to use raytracing where possible so I'm not opposed to converting to an nvidia graphics card to be able to achieve this, even if it requires the use of DLSS.

Budget (including currency): Budget depends on what is possible in terms of upgrading/keeping - AUD

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Witcher 3 wild hunt, resident evil 2 remake, 3 remake, 7 & 8, Cyberpunk 2077, Dragon Ball Z Kakarot, the final fantasy franchise (including xiv), CSGO, Modern Warfare 2, Valorant, Sons of The Forest, Fortnite and Blue Protocol (once its released) there are other upcoming AAA games I am interested in but for the sake of simplicity the above is mainly what I'd be playing. I also utilise photoshop for digital drawing.

Existing build:

cpu: Ryzen 7 3700x

Cooler: Noctua NH-U12A

Motherboard: Asus Prime x570-p

gpu: sapphire rx5700xt nitro+ 8GB

ram: LPX 16GB (2 x 8gb) DDR4 3600Mhz

SSD: Intel 660p 1TB

Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200rpm

PSU: corsair TXM gold 550w 80+

Case: Fractal design meshify c atx mid tower

current monitor: Gigabyte aorus fi25f 240hz 1080p

I'd also like to hear some opinions on the whole 1440p vs 2160p debate. Is the difference between the two resolutions drastically noticeable on a 27" monitor and while sitting roughly a meter away from the screen and whether I should opt to be gearing towards one resolution over the other?

Thank you all in advance for any insight you might be able to provide.

a 2160 display would be pointless given your graphics card, i would recommend a 3080ti/6900x for anyone

aiming for 4k. other than that here is what the upgrade is-

(ill edit this post when i have the upgrade combo)

question, what cooler do you have?

Yep, 4k is stupid for your card. for 4k you need stuff like 3080 ti or 6900xt. Yoru system is pretty decent still. Are you unhappy with the way its performing in some games?

My First PC
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x
Cooler: Asus TUF Gaming LC240
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B550-f gaming
RAM: 4x8 GB Corsair Vengeance RS (3200 MHz, CL16)
Storage: 1tb Samsung 980 Pro
Graphics Card: Asus Dual RTX 2060 OC
Case: Deepcool Matrexx 50
Power Supply: Corsair RM650x
Headset: Razer Blackshark V2
Keyboard: Corsair K70 Pro Mini (Speed Silver switches)
Mouse: Razer Viper Mini
Only changes I have made is I sold the 2060 for $235 AUD and bought a Powercolor Red Devil 6700 XT for $400 second hand (it was barely used, think I scored a deal on Ebay with that).

I love Photography (Using a Canon 60D)

Love F1, my favourite team is Ferrari and my favourite driver is Leclerc

1440p 240fps is the budget-friendly option for competitive gaming. And the 5700XT is still OK for most competitive shooters (I lock 120fps on 1440p in it).

In your place I'd get a 1440p 240Hz screen or at least 1440p 144Hz + pair it with a Radeon RX 7800XT (when it launches in a couple months) and upgrade the CPU to a 5700X or 5800X3D.

Yes, you can upgrade the system for 4K60. RTX 4080 + a Ryzen 5700X.

Yeah that's correct which is why I haven't made the jump to a 2160 display. My current cooler is a noctua NH-U12A air cooler sorry I forgot to include that in my system list 😅

Not at all I'm still quite happy with the way it performs in competitive 1080p games, however, it is starting to show its age in newer titles and an increase in resolution couldn't hurt.
