I have an old Lenovo T580 laptop that im using for school and its running fedora. I usually use like xmind, browsers social apps and also some proprietary tools for automation / programming etc...

Right now the laptop has only 8 GB of Memory running at 2400 Mhz. It has become really restrictive recently and i want to upgrade the RAM as this is what is maxing out.

My question is if i purchase an additional stick such as Ramaxel 8GB PC4-21300 (DDR4-2666) Memory (RMSA3260ME78HAF-2666) will it work with my laptop.

Seeing that its 2666 (a bit faster), i read somewhere that it will just slow down to 2400 since thats what the CPU can handle anyways.

Im on a tight budget and can grab a stick like this off ebay for like 20 bucks.

anyone knows if this is a good idea or should i look for the exact memory speed ?
