Compatibility issue?

Hey everybody,

I built a pc(link: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/rostabunny/saved/#view=W4wyWZ)

I have been having problems from day one. First, i got a bad motherboard, and the screen would freeze up when i powered it on, with no sollution. That has been resolved, but now, I keep getting Blue screens of death on startup. It will never crash and give me a blue screen. I am wondering if the ram in incompatible(with the motherboard?) because it is the wrong speed. Here is the motherboard page: https://pg.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B550 PG Velocita/index.us.asp#MemoryMS

One other problem is that if I try to change anything in my BIOS, it will not boot, then from then on I will not be able to get anything to come up on the screen, unless i clear the CMOS by taking out the battery and putting it back in.

Does this seem like a compatibility issue? If so, do you have any recommendations for motherboards? I would like to keep all of my other parts if possible.

Judging by the specs page, I doubt it's the ram's speed that is the issue. https://pg.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B550 PG Velocita/index.us.asp#Specification. Those compatibility lists are not really complete and your ram does run at a compatiable speed.

 

What error code are you getting on the blue screens?

I might be experienced, but I'm human and I do make mistakes. Trust but Verify! I edit my messages after sending them alot, please refresh before posting your reply. Please try to be clear and specific, you'll get a better answer. Common build advice:

1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticeably improve performance past 240mm and don't improve at all past 360mm. 9) RTFM.

What error code are you getting on the blue screens?

I got a lot of them. Kernel security check failure, page fault in nonpaged area, system thread exception not handled, irql not less or equal, kernel mode heap corruption, and a few others I didn't take pictures of. Also, when I took ou lt my wifi card, it seemed to fix it temporarily. I ordered a new one, but same problem. It now does it without the wifi card also.

Okay, reading through all of those my first guess would be that the the RAM is faulty. Try booting memtest from a memory stick to check.

Hey there,

I cant boot to anything with this ram and motherboard, but I tried different ram and it works. I will be getting a new motherboard, and then if it still doesn't work, then I will RMA the ram. Thanks!!

I'd just skip straight to RMA-ing the RAM. All those bluescreens tend to be related to dodgy RAM modules. Given that replacing the RAM fixed all the issues, I can pretty confidently say that a new motherboard won't make that broken RAM work.
