So, until about an hour ago, I had an ASUS GA503QS (The 3080 G15). It sparked out on me... Annoyingly, I checked the RMA site and the warranty ended yesterday, so let's see if the guys at ASUS are feeling reasonable.

I was planning on saving up about 4k to build a top spec AMD machine, but unfortunately, I'm doing a part-time PhD and I need to be able to get crunching my simulations. So, I'm hoping to be able to put together a very upgradeable base system now, to get me moving, and then upgrade to the latest and greatest a few months down the line.

What's the best I can manage on AM5 today with a view to upgrading to a 7900 XTS and 7950x in the not so distant future?

I've got all the peripherals I need, and I'd be happy having this thing running sat on a cardboard box on my desk for now, rather than spending on a case. Obviously, I'd like to have to replace as few parts as practical when it becomes upgrade time.

Use iGPU until you can afford dedicated.

The cooler will cool this chip just fine.

Motherboard is quite a bit better than the competiting ASUS one. More connectivity.

So great news, I've managed to secure a bit of funding from my university, so between that and my own funds I can probably stretch the budget to the £2000-2250 range, which I think puts the GPU in scope.

What else would you guys change about the suggested builds? It's been so long since I last built (1080s were new), I'm a little out of touch about where the price-performance sweet spot is at the high end.
