Repair corrupted HDD

Go to solution Solved by Lord Szechenyi,

windows tools are good enough for formatting

if you wanna know if there's a problem with your HDD (like dead sectors) use HD Sentinel https://www.hdsentinel.com/

Recently my HDD (Seagate 3TB) was corrupted after Microsoft deleted my game from xbox app. There was a great deal for Forza Horizon 4 and 5 for about 2$ in another currency and then Microsoft refunded that because there was a price bug or sth. After that my HDD drive couldn't handle basic things. Whole system was laggy, 20 minutes to boot (Windows was on my SSD), 20 minutes to shut down, 20 minutes to open any folder/app. I tried chkdsk and sfcscan and find out it were Forza files that were corrupted (files named like: Mustang, Supercar, Hotwheels etc)

Tried many things but I handled to bring it to usable state (chkdsk on boot that did nothing so I always skipped it, it always crashed at stage 2), HDD was slower but usable. After a week after installing another game I've noticed that the issue returned. After uninstalling that game issue was resolved.

To this day HDD works (not it glory days but it works fine), but I think that maybe a sector or sth on my HDD is broken and when something is written there then HDD can't handle it.

Tomorrow I'm planning to backup most important things and try to fix it. I was thinking about just formatting it using Windows tools, but maybe I should use another tools? Maybe something more is required to fix it? Maybe someone has similar problem and could tell me what to do.
