Budget (including currency): 1200 or less

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Red Dead Redemption, God of War

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I’ve been wanting to build my first pc for a while and I was planning on making a 4k PC, but life keeps getting in the way so I decided to decrease my budget. I can’t decide if I should still buy nicer components in hopes of upgrading my gpu later or if I should reduce my budget even more and buy a less expensive motherboard, psu, etc… I already have a cpu which is a ryzen 7 5800x. My current plan is listed through the link below, but i feel like I’m going about it the wrong way. I’m fairly confident that I want the Radeon RX 6750xt but I’m really unsure what the best decision is. I’m open to any suggestions. Let me know what you think.

Your board was $100 too high priced... Then you can get a better PSU and a 6800, still under budget !

However next GPU tier is $700+ so above your budget (6950XT or 4070Ti) 😞

The age-old advice is to spend a good chunk on your GPU. Essentially you want to buy the best GPU you can, and upgrade everything else bit by bit around it. Nearly anything in a PC is cheaper than a graphics card will be.

Do you have any parts other than just a CPU that can be reused, or did you buy a CPU first and now you need the rest of the PC?

Cut the motherboard by at least $100, use that for the 6800.  You'll be set for many years.

My advice:

1) RGB ram looks nice but costs an extra 10-15$, none of which is going to performance

2) Unless there is some feature you need and cheaper board don't have it, there is no reason to but a $300 board. Just get the cheapest thing that supports the hardware you want and has the features you need.

3) The 4000D is expensive, you can get a good case for $40-60

I might be experienced, but I'm human and I do make mistakes. Trust but Verify! I edit my messages after sending them alot, please refresh before posting your reply. Common build advice:

1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticeably improve performance past 240mm and don't improve at all past 360mm. 9) RTFM.
