PC ejects USB Drives

Go to solution Solved by Tygora,

Maybe a stupid idea, but I don't know much about troubleshooting yet: Do you think it could be due to different RGB programs? After the problem happened, the color of my fans changed. I installed the Corsair icue software and the Razer software. The game also changes the colors of my Razer keyboard automatically. Could it be because of this?

Looks like this solved the Problem for me! Thanks everyone for helping me!

Hello,
I've had this problem before from time to time, but when playing Hogwarts Legacy the problem occurs very often.
My self-built PC keeps ejecting the USB devices.
I have already tried changing the power settings. In doing so, I disabled the "Selective USB Power Saving Settings" in the power options for the "USB Settings". Unfortunately I can't think of what else it could be.

Maybe one of you has an idea on how to fix this problem. I would be very glad!

Information about my PC:
Operating System: Windows 11
GPU: RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio
Mainboard: Asus ROG Strix B550-F Gaming
Ram: 4 x 3600MHz 8 GB
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 38800XT 8-Core
Power supply: 850 Watt - SilverStone SST-ST85F-GS v 2.0

Frequent swapping of USB devices can wear ports out prematurely, causing worn contacts and poor communication with devices. You might try installing a PCIe USB card to see if the problem persists with the card. If it doesn't, that's an indicator the onboard ports are worn.

ADDED: This could also be a Win11 bug -- I've heard of several.

Hello! Thank you for your fast answer. Does it also make sense to install a PCIe USB card if all USB devices are kicked out? That would mean that all my usb ports are worn out, right? I think that would be very unlikely.

Also I'm not thinking that it is a Windows 11 bug, because I have also had this Problem when i was running windows 10 on my PC. It just didnt appear so frequently until i started playing Hogwarts Legacy.

you mean usb devices will disconnect?.. as USB drives don't "eject" like CD/DVD's used to...  and only drives, not periferal equipment connected to it?

Yes I am sorry English is not my first Language. All Devices are disconnected. I can not use my mouse, keyboard, headphones and external ssd for a couple seconds every time this happens. I have just recorded a video. There I play Hogwarts Legacy and it comes to the problem I tried to describe. Maybe it helps to watch it.

This Problem occurs about every 5 minutes of me playing the game. Before playing Hogwarts Legacy I have had this Problem maybe 5 times in total using my PC for 2 years.

do you have a good reason have usb drives connected?.  i pop those out when it's not in use usually.

disconnect anything you don't use.. and see if it keeps appearing.

I usually store all my Games on my external ssd. But since every time the described Problem appeared, the game would crash, i installed it on my internal ssd. I will try to play the game, disconnecting my drive now. Thank you. I will let you know if it worked.

Added: I have just tried it out and sadly the Problem still occured.

i wouldn't recomend running programs off external storage devices.. ever..

you can store your install files there.. not the game you run itself.

well it's easier for you to know what's going on with the system when it happens.

RGB is the curse and that's quite possible. most are not very well written and use similar if not same librarys, or operates within the same library range, can cause trouble outside RGB..

regular troubleshooting is visual, what happens to your system as it happens.

second step is, what was changed before it started to happen.

Likely the programs were trying to override each other and if the controller uses a USB header to control RGB, such a gridlock could very well cause the entire USB system to timeout.
