Multiple PTZ stream setup, general question. Networking?

Hello, my name is Tyler. I am attempting to set up a two camera stream for a buddies business where he is looking to swap between cameras at will looking at different spots in the room.

As it's currently set up I just have a single Cat5 running to each camera, back to the switch, and a cat5 into the laptop.

It all works and can be seen with under a 1ms ping.

When switching media slides (camera views I have them imported as a VLC source under RTP I believe) within OBS there is a notable 2? Second full black screen before the camera feed pops back up.

The cameras aren't dropping, it just seems to take a few seconds to get OBS to get the information and that setup will not work as they'd wish to do it fairly often.

Would I be better served running a RS232 between the cables? They also have a camera control dock with a joystick and all I had wired in but ultimately unplugged and set aside. If running SR232 cables will fix it. They want to do that. It's a very modest length of say 30' between cameras and another 20' to the media room.

Will daisy chaining 2 cameras then into a controller then CAT5 to laptop solve this OBS delay?

Or are there just a few settings I need to tweak with the current set up?

Any pointers or articles anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
