Are there any strong opinions on the current gen gpus? Im looking at the 7900 xt/xtx

For their price? sure. Lots of it.

the markets have shown that the new gen is not priced in a manner that makes any sense on the nvidea side. 4090 selling fast but everything else is not worth the money considering the perfomance difference between 4080 and 4090. so buyers have been going balls to the wall on the 4090 or grab what was left of 3080 3090 stock on the shelves.

For AMD great cards but terrible issues with the drivers...however AMD have often had this issue but do at least keep chewing on the problems till resolved. so teething problems are to be expected but if making such a huge investment AMD has often had a decent lifespan on their GPUs compared to Nvidea in many release cycles but you might want the DLSS raytracing etc so the final choice is a personal one.
