Looking for a PSU for this build.

Processor: R9 5900x

GPU: RTX 3070 ti

RAM: 32GB (2x16)

STORAGE:

1 SSD Sata (256gb)

1 SSD Nvme (1tb)

1 HDD 7200RPM (2tb)

2 HDD 5400RPM (500gb)

I'm struggling on which one to pick Seasonic FOCUS Plus Gold GX-850 or Corsair RM850 Gold (Not RM850x) or Should I got for the 750watts variant. Online PSU calculator are kinda confusing

I am running a 5900x and an MSI rtx 3080. I have a Gigabyte Aourus master x570 last revision with 5 SSD's installed 3 on the motherboard 1 on a 4th genPCI card and one on the small pciexpress. the pc has a custom loop with a 420mm rad from alphacool at the front with 6 silent wings fans push pull config. top has a second 240 mm radiator and the GPU has a water block. I am using in total 9 x silent wings 3 fans and everything runs smooth as silk on the Corsair RM850.

the PSU is simply excellent especially the price and warranty it was a no brainer for my purchase choice.

I would personally be willing to go as low as 600W, but that's really cutting it close. 650W+ is a better idea, 850W is probably a bit overkill.

can carry over to future builds

A, the F word. Futureproofing isn't something I'd recommend, although a PSU is something you should invest in. I'd take quality over quantity though, get something good with high efficiency over something cheaper with more claimed wattage.

+1..... DO NOT skimp on your psu, its the heart of your rig and has to be reliable 100% of the time. Id say 700 watts if 588 is what your whole build tops out at. The CM V line is very good. All 3 of the Corsair are good with minor differences. The 850x has caps on the wires which i personally dont like myself. Theres some fan differences and some capacitor differences but theyre all very good units in the end. Warranty wise, both companies are pretty easy to deal with in the US, abroad i dont know.

I went for the corsair rm 850 as I knew I would be getting an RTX 3080 at a later date upgrading from a GTX 1080ti hence my no brainer comment.

locally in the market where I am living the price difference between 750 units and 850 units was less than 30 USD so once again that influenced my choice. 3080 could run on a 750 but the youtube videos discussing the build quality of the corsair rm850 along with its silent operation were the initial reason I went that direction plus I still have an older gaming system with the i5760 sytem built years ago for gaming and it uses a corsair GS 600 which is still running and over that period since 2010? never had an issue and it to this day runs perfectly.

I have been using my 850 unit it for over 15months now and the fan on the psu I have only ever seen it spin up on boot. this might be the exact same on the 750 unit but i do not know as I do not own one. My PSU never gets hot enough to kick in with the fan for extra cooling but then my build is in a full tower Bequiet Darkbase pro 900 and full custom waterloop for CPU GPU

End of the day it remains a personal choice. 750 runs well enough and will give you no issues but if you upgrade in the future then again my "personal" opinion is that the 850 is better suited for that scenario,.

Thats a great pick for your particular situation. I have a few of those older PSU's that are perfectly fit for duty too, so yeah they will last if you take care of your stuff and use it the way its supposed to be used. They dont give 10 year warranties cause they think they wont last that long, thats for sure. You got some extra room too cause you dont know what you may be upgrading to in the future. Enjoy! 😉

So the brand doesn't matter? Both can perform well on those components?

Brands do matter cause of the OEM and the engineering design, warranty service, reliability, factually stated numbers, etc.. but in this case he had some good picks so it doesnt matter as much HERE. CM's MWE line, imo, i dont like myself really since they are kinda average, but they are supposed to be good units.
