Updating Bios

Go to solution Solved by aledsav1,

if you have no issues then there is no need, there might be some improvements from getting a newer bios, though in most cases bioses are released to resolve problems that have been found once the general public start using the boards (thousands of different variations of components etc finding hiccups that the maufacturers limited testing couldn't).

Or a processor upgrade that needs a newer bios.

So no don't bother, however there is nothing to fear from updating a bios, many years back yes, but nowadays very few issues, as long as you follow the guides correctly.

I must have updated 100's of bioses on motherboards and cannot recall bricking one of them...I have bricked plenty of graphics cards though:)

Been using my new rig for a couple of months now and have realised I have not updated the bios in fact it's never been updated I've seen so many horror stories about it bricking the mobo after updating. I'm a complete beginner in the pc world. Is this a case of if it's not broken don't fix it. Thanks in advance

Yea If you don't have any issues the new bios corrects and or don't need or want a new feature from the new bios, better off leaving it BUT  don't be afraid of it either, boards can brick themselves although its rare it can happen but as I said don't be afraid of updating it because even though updates are mostly fixes, and stability improvements there is also the occasional feature update that could give or allow a function it couldn't do before in which case you might want to do it, Id say if you don't need it leave it but at the same time do a little deep dive into bios updating learn how its done so if in the future there is a new feature you want to use you will be comfortable and confident, because alot of the first timers who brick it are those who are unsure and panic if the computer isn't responding for a minute and try to power cycle it before it finishes

Ryzen 5800X3D(Because who doesn't like a phat stack of cache?) GPU - 7700Xt

                                                           X470 Strix f gaming, 32GB Corsair vengeance, WD Blue 500GB NVME-WD Blue2TB HDD, 700watts EVGA Br

~Extra L3 cache is exciting, every time you load up a new game or program you never know what your going to get, will it perform like a 5700x or are we beating the 14900k today? 😅~
