Is this Minecraft Temps normal?

Go to solution Solved by manikyath,

minecraft will gladly keep your CPU pinned to max clock speed, especially if there's lots of stuff going on on the tick thread.. or if you have optifart messing with things. (optifine actually isnt that good of an optimization tool anymore.. it's far too bloated.)

but really... dont worry about your temps when you're running a game. if you're worried about temps, do some cpu benchmark. 60°c is still very low on the temperature scale.

if you want some advice for how to optimize your minecraft instance, (which really.. as long as you can keep high FPS is unnecessary):

- fabric or forge of your choosing, i'm a forge person, but lots of people prefer fabric, and it doesnt matter in this case.

- install sodium (fabric) or magnesium (forge) to do the bulk of your optimizations. from my experience just sodium/magnesium beats optifart by leaps.

- 'entity culling' is a recent addition to my list, it skips rendering entities that are not otherwise visible. this helps a surprising amount if you have lots of mobs or item entities floating around. it's got versions for both forge and fabric.

if manually installing mods sounds a bit steep, this is probably the most 'FOSS and trustworthy' launcher for mantaing mods: https://prismlauncher.org/ (there's plenty of options out there, but unfortunately comparing them gets political REAL fast...)

I'm playing Minecraft 1.19.2 using Optifine, and my base is starting to get big, a large automatic bamboo farm, and in the process of a kelp farm that is 13 by 13 wide. Usually when I play my temps are idling in the 40's, only going up when rendering new areas. But lately it's been getting higher ever since I made automatic farms, using pistons and observers, reaching up to 60'C. Do pistons really take so much processing power the more there are?

I'm using an i5 4590 and 16gb Ram, nothing else, and a Resource pack for x32 Vanilla textures.

Playing with shaders? Disable and check temps.

Reduce render distance and/ or simulation distance, check temps.

A resource pack could cause higher CPU overhead depending on what it adds to the game. Basically disable any addons and check temps for vanilla, adjust render and simulation distance, then when temps are what you are happy with under those conditions and game runs fine turn on addons one at a time, checking performance and temps as you go.

Yes, they do take a good bit of power, as they are being updated constantly client side as well as server side.

It's a fine temp for gaming, so don't worry about it.

I would recommend stop watching temps.

Iris/Sodium has Java issues though, as I get slowdowns and then crashing constantly with it.  Optifine may not be optimal, but it allows shaders to run without issue.    For me at least.

i've had quite the opposite experience actually. also, from what i read OP isnt running shaders, just optiart and a variation of 'faithful x32' resource pack.

perhaps iris is a lot less stabile on fabric than it is on forge, but i'd be hard pressed to believe there's sodium issues, because most speedruns these days happen with sodium because of the performance benefit.

Interesting, as I am new to shaders.  I was using Optifine and Sildur's Extreme.   Then AWNW went to 1.19.3 and Optifine didn't, so I had to switch to Iris/Sodium.

I will have to see if I am running Fabric or Forge.  This was in conjunction with BDCraft x256 resource pack too.  Everything ran at hundreds of FPS on Optifine, and started that way with IRis, but then I got Java erroes about memory even with 8GB and then 16GB allocated thru settings.

ANyway, not to derail but that's my experience.

Most new cpu's have max temps in the 90's mine is an older version so its max temp is 72 so its a bit high for me.

eh. depends on your cooling solution and fan curves. in theory as long as you remain under 95°c everything is fine. for me 80-85°c is usually the target, because going much lower really doesnt have any effect.

also, 95°c has been intel's tjmax figure since the P4 era, it hasnt really changed.

i5 4590 has a max temp of 72, it's a 4th gen cpu so it's not 95 like most new ones. And I'm using a t20 coolermaster

Right, so your CPU is going CPU AND GPU stuffs.  I'd say temp increase is justified.

i5 4590 has a max temp of 72, it's a 4th gen cpu so it's not 95 like most new ones. And I'm using a t20 coolermaster

well fuck.. intel changed that in hindsight..

they USED to list tjmax, apparently my 4790k ran most of it's life above intel's listed temperature limits... as of their current information.

having that said.. they list Tcase now.. what the cpu measures isnt Tcase, so that humber is actually freaking useless to compare against.
