Need help deciding between two laptops

Hello everyone,

 

I have been looking at laptops recently and went to a few tech stores to try some out, and I found out that the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 pro (non-X) best suits my needs.

However, I have troubling finding out which CPU I want it to have. I am purchasing it in Denmark, and there are two models at a reasonable price:

 

- One with i5-12500H, LPDDR5 memory, and it was released in 2022

- One with Ryzen 5 5600H, DDR4 memory, and it was released in 2021

 

At first, I wanted to buy the Intel one, as they were previously the same price, however there is currently a sale, where I can get the AMD laptop for what is equal to around 790 USD, while the Intel version costs closer to 1100 USD.

These prices are a bit high, as it includes a 25% tax on the product.

 

My question is whether I should buy the one with the Intel processor for the higher price, as it is newer and, according to UserBenchmark, has around 40-50% better performance

Or I should buy the one with the AMD processor, as it is cheaper and still a good CPU.

I am getting it for school, so my primary use will be light tasks on Chrome, Word and so on. Also a bit tougher tasks with some math programs and such. Gaming performance is not really relevant. I also want to futureproof, so I do not have to get a new one for quite a few years.

In general, just good performance for years to come in some light to moderate workloads.

Either will do. The i5 is better but if the lower price would allow you to have budget for something else important get the ryzen

My brother and I are discussing, if it would be better to spend the extra money now.

He thinks that it is better to spend the extra money for a better CPU, so I am sure I do not get something more or less lackluster that will not last me for very many years.

I think that I will get a very good laptop either way, so it may be better to save the money for something else. Benchmarks seem to suggest that the Intel has a significant performance advantage, however I think that it may not be necessary to spend so much money, as the Ryzen CPU still is a pretty good processor.

 

I can afford them both, but it is more a matter of value in regard to what actually will be used.

Okay, with a deeper dive I see that there are important differences between the two models. I think that my money would be better spent on the Intel model, so I think that is what I will do.

In that price bracket the M1 MacBook is the best laptop you can buy really
