I want to build an (almost) new build... GPU won't be upgraded, as my 3070 is still plenty enough imo. Maybe a 5070 in 2 years... i already put some stuff together:

My main concern would be the RAM... is the 13700k even able to run the 7200 MHz kit? Official supports ends at 5600 MHz, but i know that this is not the end. Or should i go "slower"?

As you already have guessed, money is not the main concern on this build, but that doesn't mean i have to waste 800 bucks on some fancy RAM (thats the reason i went for the i7 and not the i9...)

It looks like a very nice build you put together, the RAM I am not sure about, Raptor Lake's memory controller is a very good one, it probably concerns the motherboard more if it can run these speeds... as long as you stay at one DIMM per channel I wouldn't count it out, but as I'm not a RAM OC specialist, maybe other would like to chime in...

only other nitpick is the SSD, I know Samsung has an unreasonably good reputation as an SSD manufacturer, but you can find much much better and faster PCIe Gen 4 SSDs for cheaper than Samsungs 980 Pro... and at your budget I'd say 2TB would be very recommended, as they're not much more than the 1TB 980P... for example the Western Digital SN580X for 170$ https://pcpartpicker.com/product/crKKHx/western-digital-black-sn850x-2-tb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-wds200t2x0e

Or the Teamgroup Cardea Z44 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/pJ3gXL/teamgroup-t-force-cardea-z44q-2-tb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-tm8fpq002t0c327 for the same price.

I hope I could help you out with this cool PC, have fun building!

Cheers!

from what ive read this kit will require some tinkering to get it to run at its rated speed so unless you want to do some RAM overclocking its probably better to go for something closer to 6000MHz.

I also agree with what agent2 said above about SSDs. You can probably find something nearly as fast as the samsung 990 for a lot cheaper such as something from the WD black lineup although i doubt you will find anything faster than the 990. You will probably notice the extra storage a lot more than the extra speed so going for a 2TB SN850x instead of a 1TB 990 would be my choice

Thank you both for your input.

As i will harvest a second SSD from my old rig, capacity is of no concern for me (i'm also no data horder). But i will look into it again.

Regarding RAM, what about this:

That RAM is an AMD EXPO version of the Ripjaws S5, so yeah an XMP kit would make more sense for you.
