$1500 pc build help!!!!!

Go to solution Solved by jamie.three,

Ive seen some people saying that Nvidia GPUs are significantly better for pcvr with wireless to the quest 2 (i dont know much about pcvr though) so with that on top of much better blender performance it would make sense for you to go Nvidia rather than AMD.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/PZ8mhk

Ive put together this parts list which saves some money on the motherboard, power supply and SSD and just about manages to get a 3070 into your budget. (although the cheapest 3070 on PC part picker right now is a white one, so you might want to go for a different one if its going to bother you that it want match the theme of the rest of your build.)

You might also want to look into the possibility of geting a 2nd hand GPU since there are some really good deals on them right now and you get buyer protection if you buy through somewhere like ebay so there really isnt any risk so long as you buy something that the seller claims is working.

In your current parts list it is a bit concerning that the motherboard costs almost as much as the CPU. A good motherboard is important but you will get more performance going for a cheaper motherboard and a better CPU etc. and there are pleanty of Z690 motherboards with support all the same features at a lower price.

Your power supply is also a bit excessive, there are cheaper options that are still semi or fully modular from good manufacturers and you should have no problems with a 750w power supply rather than an 850w with you current build.

Budget (including currency): $1500 Country: USA

Games, programs, or workloads that it will be used for: Blender, warfare, destiny 2, fall guys, fortnite, school work. Vr games- bonelabs, Beat saber, echo Vr arena and combat.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I already purchased the case.

I'm willing to spend another 150 dollars for good gaming keyboards and mouse.

Needs to be as powerful as MacBook Air M1 and my Xbox series S. Should be able to play PCvr. I will play it on my oculus quest 2. I already have a LG 32" UltraGear QHD (2560x1440) 165Hz HDR 10 Monitor with FreeSync - 32GN600-B.AU. Thanks in advance.

Very nice !

But if you're using Blender a 3060Ti would perform better, it's same price than 6750XT and just a tad slower in rasterization (less than 10%)

I cant really look for you but some general tips are to avoid anything that is marked as untested (if it says untested 90% of the time they tested it and it didn't work). If there are photos of both the GPU and also photos of it working in a PC e.g. a screensht of GPUz etc. then thats usually a safe buy. Also i wouldnt pay more than about 550$, and 500$ would be a much more resonable price. You can buy a new one for 590$ so for any less than about 40-90$ it just isnt worth the effort of buying used. Here in the UK they are about £400 buy it now used (usually £500 new). Its also worth looking at better cards just to check that they arent cheaper. Here in the UK i was about to buy a used 2060 super when i had a look at the prices on the rest of the rtx 20 series cards just to check and i found a 2080ti for the same price i was about to pay for a 2060 super!

Personally id also stay away from ebay listings that only use retail images and don't have any pictures of the actual card. I usually change the search filter for item condition to "used" and avoid anything that says "refurbished". generally the refurbished ones aren't necessarily a scam, they are just sold by companies rather than individuals which basically just means they know exactly how much the GPU is worth and will price it accordingly, so if its "refurbished" and its cheaper than other listings then there is usually a catch, whereas if its "used" and its cheaper then thats nothing to worry about so long as there arent any other red flags in the listing.

Its important to remember that on ebay you do have buyer protection so you either will recieve an item as described or you will be able to get a refund. The only issues are when items arent described at all (or described as untested, sold as seen, etc.) and obviously its also nice to just avoid the hastle of a refund process in the first place by avoiding anything that has any of the red flags ive mentioned.

To see how much auctions are likely to sell for you can look at recently ended listings, and if they are selling for barely any less than you can buy a 3070 new for then id just buy something new.

I found some 3080 gpu's that are being sold for around $320 (300.91 euro). Is that a good deal they have pictures of the card and have the box?

Yes both of them would be good deals if you can get them for a good price. Since both have only just been listed as an auction they will probably sell for a lot more than the price they are currently at.

They are good examples of the type of listing to look for: both listed as used, with good photos and even a good reason for why the seller is selling them, now you just need to either hope that some of them dont go up in price too much, or find some that are either ending soon or listed as buy it now.

You might also want to have a look at how much a 2080 super or 2080ti are selling for at the moment. I believe that a 2080ti performs somewhere in between a 3070ti and a 3080 in most games (it does fall behind in ray tracing a bit). A lot of people upgrade about every 2 generations of graphics card so there will probably be a lot on sale from people upgrading to the new rtx 4000 or rx 7000 series which should push the price down.
