sudden Low Fps

whenever i boot up my laptop my fps on all my games is super low then randomly after an hour of me trying to fix it, it goes back to normal again

i have a i911900h 3060 and 16gb of ram

Hi there,

 

When loaded to the Windows desktop, leave it a few mins to let all background processes to load and start then take a look at your task manager to see what's running.

 

Sort the columns by 'cpu usage' and make sure nothing is running in the background that's sucking up your recourses. At idle, your cpu should hover around 2% > 5%. When you load up a game this will increase dramatically and while its dependant on the game, shouldn't really suck up 100% which will cause performance issues.

 

If you need a more detailed report on what is going on with your hardware (temps, speeds, usages percentages.....) use HWInfo. If you haven't used it before you might need to do a bit f research into what the different values mean and which ones to keep an eye on but its a very handy tool.

the problem is even after my laptop has been on for quite a while the fps is still super low

Very strange.

 

Check the running processes. If the problem kinda sorts its self after a while it might be something running in the background like a virus scan....

 

Given its always much harder to diagnose and fix hardware issues on a laptop, you could eliminate the software side of things by doing a fresh install of Windows.

Right click your taskbar at the bottom of the screen (windows 10) or right click the windows button (windows 11) then click 'task manager'. You'll see a large list of running processes with a few columns to the right showing how much cpu, ram, disk or network they are each using. If you click the cpu column header, all processes should be sorted by cpu usage so if you see anything pegged at 100%, that's probably your culprit. Don't worry about processes that spike for a second or 2 as this is normal, its anyone that sits at 100% or close to extended periods of time. If you see one of these, right click on it and click 'end processes'. If you do see a processes that's hogging your system resourses, Google it to make sure its not an essential processes and see if you can uninstall it.

Get a USB pen drive that has at least 8GB of free space and Google, 'windows usb tool'. It will create a bootable usb drive with Windows on it ready for you to install on your PC. I always recommend doing a complete fresh install so make sure all your files are backup up, either locally or to the cloud. Just make sure you create the media on the laptop / pc you intend on installing it on as the tool will download the correct Windows version.
