So a fair number of uses for a tablet have cropped up in my day to day life. For referencing my lists when wargaming and for a more streamlined way of conducting interviews in my work as a journalist. I am not necessarily looking for anything fancy, all I need is a tablet that has a microphone input. Does anything exist?

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

That cable won't work, as it only takes an audio input and splits it. I believe what the OP is looking for is a microphone input so that they can do online chats or other things that require a microphone. As far as I am aware, no such thing exists, but you may be able to jerry rig a usb solution using a tablet to usb input, then a microphone, audio jack to usb converter.

Does not having a second parenthesis around something bother anyone else as much as it does me? (Like if this statement was missing a second side)

How come it won't work, it splits the combo 3.5mm to separate mic and audio. Unless you mean that tablets won't recognise it.

As far as I know, the jacks on tablets are not microphone/audio jacks. They are only audio jacks. Someone might want to check me on this though.

How can they not be mic/audio if you can use earphones with mics with them

Sorry for the double post, forgot to quote in the first one.

I know that my nexus 7 (1st gen) and samsung galaxy tab 2 do not support a mic, they use the headphones for sound then the onboard microphone is used to pick up speech. However this may have changed in recent tablets as I know it has on smartphones.

almost all tablets use a combo port, thats also the reason why alot of gaming headsets with microphones in them have a combo connector, so you can use it on a table, and then they also include a splitter with them so you can use it with a PC which dont have combo ports.

all tablets have a microphone input, they have a combo 3.5mm jack which can be used with a headset that also has a combo port. Most gaming headsets have this, like the steelseries siberia V2 and Elite ones,  those are the only ones i know that do have those

Well, I looked at the Tegra Note 7 by EVGA and it does not mention TRRS anywhere in the support, spec sheet, knowledge base or manual - so I do believe you're wrong - not every tablet has TRRS jacks.

Most modern devices come with 3.5mm audio+microphone jack, if you want separeted you need to go to older stuff like this:

At least you can get those convertibles for pretty cheap and they run full windows.

I would guess most tablets come with microphone input on the headphone jack though.

yes, because that's because its the industry standard...

also, after 2 mins of searching i found this: http://www.engadget.com/products/nvidia/tegra/note/7/specs/

look at what it says for audio. it says 'Audio / headset jack' now, a headset has both a mic and speakers, so it appears im right. i can assure you that that a decent tablet will have combo jack.
