I built my first pc a few months ago and am considering getting a gpu. I originally took the old card (GTX 960 2Gb) and put it in my new pc. Its age is apparent when playing  games I think its time to bite the bullet and just get an better used or budget gpu. I am looking at used 1080's and 1080ti's on ebay mostly and would like to know if my pc would be compatible or equivalent to the specs of my pc. My preferred budget would be around 200-300 but I know with prices these days I might just need to keep waiting till prices go down.  Any suggestions on cards or advice would be much appreciated thanks!

You may be cutting it a bit fine with only a 500w bronze PSU. The 1080TI has a recommended minimum of 600w for the PSU.

I would look at something like the 2060, which has the benefits of being an RTX card (dlss) and looking at benchmarks, this card performs slightly better than the 1080 despite less memory and power consumption. Of course being newer is more likely to remain compatible with games for longer.

I can see them for sale for $250ish (in the UK at least).

Waiting longer, or for the next generation of cards for the 30xx to appear on the second hand market may yield savings, but it wouldn't be too long before the i3 listed in the PC part picker list becomes a bit of a bottleneck.

I am also looking into getting a 1080 Ti right now, if you were to get it off of ebay than you really need to look into the ebay ad. You could also get a 1080 off of something like Facebook marketplace or something like that. If you are looking into getting a 1080 than it might be better to get a RTX 2060. But if you aren't, then I would get a 1080 Ti because of how amazing the performance is. Sure, your not getting features such as DLSS or ray tracing, but the 1080 Ti is really good.
