What are you planning to use this system for?  Where are you located? What is your budget?  Do you live near a Microcenter?  Any parts from old computers that you can reuse?

portable, has 2 monitors

what about a mid tower and a single monitor? you would be able to save allot more money and get more performance

@CartertheCOCguy

This is the ideal build that I recommend, it is $200 over budget though.  I also think it is in your best interest to hold off on peripherals as much as possible so you can focus on getting the best possible PC(actual performance) with your money.

If we have to get this thing in at $1200, we have to go AMD.

Some things that you want to buy right now:

CX600M - $45 <-- Buy this now, the sale ends in 2 hours!  You won't find a better PSU for the price.  I have one myself and it is incredible, also very quiet.

300R Case - $40 <-- I don't know when this sale ends, but I imagine it is soon.  Buy this case, seriously, buy this case.  It is an insanely good deal for only $40.  You will love this case.  Get it now.

8GB 1866Mhz RAM - $70 <-- This ends on 4/24, it is a very, very good deal on some above average RAM.

AMD FX8320 - $130 <-- If you decide to go AMD, this is a really good price for the 8320.

     Spending over $100 on a keyboard and mouse is really going to hurt you.  That $100 is much better spent buying the best GPU you can afford.  Nothing impacts performance more than GPU, you want to spend 40%-50% of your overall budget on GPU.  A nice thing about the R9 280/290 is that they come with 3 free games, that you get to pick when they are purchased through Newegg.  If you can, get a R9 290 for $400.  Once you get that part, then work on the rest of your build.  GPU is the most important.  I also agree with Sav1our, start with one monitor and add a 2nd monitor later.  You need to focus on the computer first, and everything else is secondary.
