Well the 2 screws from the heat sink don't go into the whole. So idk if I should look for a longer screw but I've read the manual and videos and they never use the spot above the gpu. K

is your 980 the heatsink model? as i said previously, the motherboards heatsink will not fit over the m.2 if the m.2 has it's own heatsink..

I'm having trouble installing the m.2 on the top slot. There's two screws that take the cover and I'm using a Samsung 980 pro. Which seems smaller than a 2280. There's little things that rotate that hold it in but i I can get the cover back on. The screws aren't long enough or the m.2 is too think because it does have a heat sink. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? All the videos I've watched the people install in the bottom 2 which I think is gen 3.
thanks in advance

it is 2280, so double check your using the right standoff spot if the board has multiple.

if it has the heatsink, then the motherboards heatsink wont fit. you can either remove your m.2's heatsink, or just not use the motherboards heatsink, either should be fine. would probably help if you listed what motherboard you have.   edit: nvm, realized its in the title lol

Yeah it's the 980 with a heat sink. Is there anyway to take it off the m.2? I'd rather have the motherboard heat sink

yes, it can be removed, i believe it's only held on by adhesive, so a plastic pry tool(or guitar pick) should work. you should double check though to make sure before prying at it. if the ssd is brand new, another option would be to return it and get the non heatsink model, which is the option i would go with, especially if bought at a local store.

edit: just double checked the specs, and all of the ports support pci 4.0, only one supports 5.0, so you wouldn't lose out on any speed by putting it in the other slots.

Ok I'll just use the bottom slots. I seen 2 screws but I didn't really want to mess with it. I appreciate you taking the time to look through and help me out.

Well I tried the bottom slot and it still won't fit. I can get the screw on the other side on or maybe just leave it off. I can't it see possible they'd make a motherboard that can't fit an m.2 with a heat sink. The only spot that has almost enough room is the bottom right. Should I just put in one screw, leave the cover off or try to remove heat sink?
