Budget (including currency):  $1500 - $2000

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Unreal engine 5

Other details:

CPU: Core I5 4590

GPU: NVIDA GEFORCE GTX 1070

Mother Board: ASUS Z97-A

RAM: Manufacturer - 0215, Memory -24, Speed -1600

My current system dose fine (for now) but I know for making large files for games I will need to upgrade sooner than later. I am mainly looking to upgrade my CPU but I realize that will just mean replacing most of my parts. If I could get advice on what I could I do to have a better future proof rig.

I currently have a Seasonic 80+ Gold 650W

Ok, in that case, i would start with the CPU / MOBO / RAM. are you inclined to intel / amd or are you not bothered?

why is this relevant to the question?

this is depending on your task, is the memory depleted while your working? then add more memory.

the best way is just upgrade the whole thing.

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

Why is it relevant? ok, so he has a 4th Gen CPU, lets say he has a 450w non 80plus PSU from EBAY that he got with the PC in 2015. your telling me, you want to buy new hardware and put this in? the Power supply is the backbone of the system, and as such, if investing in new components, its best to make sure that you have a PSU that is upto the task. without asking, we would have not known, and could have recommended parts that would have been too much of a power draw etc.

I am more inclined to intel for the only reason is that it is compatible with my motherboard. Though like I said I am willing to bite the bullet and just redo my system.

I agree 100% with this.

Ok, if your willing to bite the bullet, then for 2k a good option would be:

AMD Ryzen 9 3900x (509$ at Newegg currently)

X570 Gaming Edge MSI Motherboard (105$ newegg)

Corsair Vengence 16gb RGB Pro 3600MHZ (152$ newegg)

RTX 3070 TI (798$ at newegg)

Sabrent 1tb rocket NVME ($100 newegg)

EVGA Supernova 750 80+ Gold (110$ newegg)

comes to circa 1800 usd, so gives you 200 to choose a case, cooler etc.

you can reuse any HDDs you have.

i can swap the AMD parts for intel, but the 3900X will be a solid cpu with a high core count for UE5, if focused more on gaming 12th gen intel would be a good option, but for 2k total, you could get a very competent system.

hope this helps

I appreciate it, I may try to go for a higher end CPU rather than higher end Graphics but well see. Also how easy do you think it would be to see my current build. Plus would it be better to sell it all in one or by separate parts.

i mean, sure, swap out the 3070ti for a 3060 or even keep yours if you dont need gpu power that much, then go up in CPU.

depends how much time you have, but chances are, selling it as one will be better, people aren't likely to want tot buy a i5 4th gen, but as part of a full system that works.. someone who wants a cheap pc for there house/word editing/ videos will surely buy it.

previously i have had better experiences building my old parts into systems and selling them that way.

If you wanted to do something now an i9-12900(F) on a B660 or H670 motherboard with 2x16GB DDR4-3200 CL16 memory, a high performance cpu cooler (air), and a 1TB NVMe drive is at the low end of the budget. Reuse the case, GPU, PSU, and storage. GPU and PSU can be upgraded later.

Otherwise think about a total system replacement near the end of the year when both AMD and Intel are expected to release new cpu.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
