Hi all,

I've just purchased some parts second hand and want to sense check things before I complain to the vendors.

New (to me) parts

Tomahawk b550

Ryzen 5 3600x

2x 16gb tforce vulcan z ram

I've installed everything and the LED jumped straight from cpu to dram and stopped there.

I took out one of the dimms and it posts.

Swapped the dimms, it posts

OK, both dimms are working fine

I've loosened the cooler as I e read that can cause issues, no dice

I've put the dimms in the first two ram slots, it posts.

It doesn't post of I put 1 dimm in the furthest ram slot from the cpu, it doesn't post.

I've reseated cpu

Is there anything else I can do to troubleshoot this or is the board fubar'ed?

Most likely a bad CPU, if both RAM sticks work in slot A2 but not in B2.
That means the CPU memory controller is not talking to it properly.

So far as I can tell your slots are in order from CPU slot: A1, A2;B1, B2.
Try your DIMM in B1 and see if it works.
Also try both DIMMs in A1, A2. Let us know the result of each

I tried so many different configs that I've forgotten which worked and which didn't. TBF, I wasn't happy with the state of the MB when it arrived, seller was more than happy to accept a 40% part refund, and claims he just buys and sells them and he's assured by his supplier that it was fully working, but doesn't know anything about them, the whole deal stinks. There are a number of parts missing also, so he's agreed to a refund. In a stroke of luck, I found the same board for sale for £15 quid cheaper, and arrived next day, when I wasn't in, collecting tomorrow so will see if it's the board or if it's the CPU and update here
