Help identifying RAM clock speed

When I check for the RAM clock speed in task manager it shows 2933 MHz, but CPU-Z shows 1600MHz.  Which one of the two is correct?

your ram speed is 3200 mhz but its now running at 2933

go in the bios and set the ram at 3200 mhz

Both/neither. CPU-Z is showing the actual clockspeed. DDR means double data rate: a transfer happens twice per cycle. 3200MHz RAM is actually 1600MHz with 3200 MT/s (megatransfers per second). Manufacturers just call it MHz because that's more familiar to consumers and effectively the same.

 

Windows, however, is seeing it running at just under 3000MHz, so it may not be clocked correctly in the BIOS, i.e. it's 3200 MT/s RAM running at 2933 MT/s.

Actually the tab he has open in CPU-Z in not showing the speed it just reading pre-programned modes in SPD, for reading the actual speed in CPU-Z you need to visit the "Memory" tab in there.
