Microphone stopped working

I got on my pc for the first time in a week, and my microphone had just stopped working. I went through every fix I could find(Updating drivers, setting it as the default device, running the trouble shooter, checking physical connections, checking windows 10 mic options, updating windows, and a couple of other things) and none of them worked. This could be a hardware problem as my headphones are somewhat old, but my mic still works on my phone and on my laptop. So unless its the audio jacks on the back of my pc, I don't think it is a hardware problem.

If you're running Windows 10 or 11, try checking the Privacy Settings. I've run into computers in the past that blocked access to things like the microphone and webcam after a Windows update without any input from the user.

Have tried this, unfortunately it did not fix it.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have the exact same problem.

My headset which I've used with window 10 for several months will not record the mic in anymore.

I checked realtek audio manager and the settings were as I left them . the inputs and outputs are both set to individual sources.

Checked devices were default.

Uninstalled realtek drivers.

Checked privacy settings and app permissions.

System restore.

Reset this PC.

Strangely, the mic in pink front panel and rear will record any audio on the OS but not from external source?

My only solution now is to do a clean re install of the original windows that I installed.

That or try using USB headset.

Mother board is Gigabyte's b550 gaming X rev 1.0

Windows 21H1 package.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
