Hello , I currently have a gtx 1060 3gb with ryzen 1400 and 16gb of ram , planning to upgrade to rtx 3060 with ryzen 5600x and 32gb of ram . Right now I oly have the budget for everything beside the 3060 gpu , will there be any harm if I buy everything except the gpu and keep the 1060 for now ? edit : The reason for me wanting to upgrade the cpu now is that in the games I play I get a lot of stuttering and freezing and that is caused by a cpu bottleneck right ?

Hi,

I just got a PC built with RTX 3060 last month. So i could give you some advice. The first thing i'll like to tell you if you are thinking about 30 series then instead 3060 go for 3060Ti.

I'm kind of regretting not choosing 3060Ti but an entry level 3060 instead.

The reason i did that because i was anxious about it's electric consumption as i never used such powered cards so with 3060 i thought i already be above level. I did not want a guzzler and something that'll heat up so much, also i live in a hot climate so i chose 3060 to avoid higher TDP which frankly there's not much of a difference of TDP in between them. But i save where i could. Anyway go for 3060Ti instead.

BTW, RTX 3050 and (also i think) RTX 3050Ti just announced they are budget version it also has lower TDP so if top graphics or top FPS or top resolution is not much of a requirement you may want to give it a look.

As far as your question goes i don't think there is any harm in using same gpu with new of everything else.

Are you are also upgrading your motherboard too?

Or are you thinking about experimenting with new hardware with same gpu to check if that'll resolve your issue?

Also explain are these issues with the same games you have been playing or they are a new games? because then it might be some requirement related issue.

      PC Specs -

  • Windows 10 Pro  64Bit
  • Intel 10th Gen I7 10700F 2.9GHz
  • MSI RTX 3060 Gaming X 12GB DDR6
  • ASUS H570M-PLUS
  • Corsair Vengeance 32GB(16x2) 3600MHz DDR4
  • Samsung 980NVMe.M.2 1TB
  • Corsair CV550 Bronze
  • Ant eSports Mid Tower
  • Acer Gaming Monitor 24" FHD VG240YS 165Hz
  • APC 1100VA UPS
  • Vguard stabilizer VM300 - 8 amps

I will keep that in mind when getting the new gpu . Yes , I am also upgrading the MB to msi gaming edge wifi . it is mostly like apex legends and destiny 2 , not new games I would say .

It could be both the cpu and the gpu. You're getting stuttering right now because of your gpu most likely, but your cpu is also pretty old right now. GPU's are more influential to game performance than cpu's, but you also don't want a high bottleneck.

What does your budget look like? Do you have around $500 or $1000 to spend? Also, what do the rest of your specs look like? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/

RTX 3060Ti is very close to RTX 3070 with a somewhat extra price but the performance difference between them is only 15 percent. While 3060 is 30 and 50 percent below them respectively.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6W92QD my current specs . I say it is a cpu bottleneck because when I get these freezing and stuttering its when a lot of things are happening in the game and my gpu usage drops a lot and the cpu goes to 90-100% percent

Recommend upgrading your cpu, motherboard, AND psu if you can.

Here's a cheaper option for the psu, if you need to save some money there. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/R2mxFT/corsair-power-supply-cp9020103na

Thanks , and thats exactly what I will be doing . but mind If I ask why should I change the psu ? because my current psu is actually the second one in this build , I have it for a year and half I think . The first one died after 3 years of using it .

It's low spec for current systems, and it doesn't even have a 80+ Bronze rating.

If you plan on upgrading your gpu soon, then that will also be a required upgrade for that. Better to upgrade it now, rather than later (if you have the budget for it) imo. The Corsair RM 80+ Gold since it's a lot better than the 650 CXM 80+ Bronze psu. However, the 650 CXM psu is still a much better upgrade from your current psu.
