hi laptop section 😄

I have a Dell g7 15 laptop that ive had for about 2 years now. Recently, the fans have been going full blast when i open a website with lots of video sidebars, opening Visual Studio Code, or just anything that's slightly above average CPU usage. I popped open the back to clean as much cat hair and dust i could get out of the heatspreader, and found that dell did a pretty sloppy job at putting on the thermal paste. Its still completely covered but looks really thin to me. Ive never built a pc before so i dont know what is a proper amount, but could this be the issue? The specs are in my signature for reference.

The more important question is what Temps are you seeing?

Common causes for fans not working, abnormal, or loud fan noise, overheating:

  • Fans or air vents that are obstructed
  • Dust accumulation on vents or fans
  • Not enough ventilation
  • Physical damage
  • Out-of-date BIOS and device drivers
