I need help with cables on my gaming monitor and 2013 imac

So basically I bought this samsung monitor (144hz 1080p if you must know,) but it turns out that the imac i'm trying to connect it with doesn't actually have a HDMI port, only a thunderbolt. And to make matters worse, the imac is really old (it's from 2013, the 21 inch version.) I've looked online and there ARE adapters, but most if not all of them are just mini display port to HDMI adapters, and with the help of google i've found that mini display port cables actually ARE compatible with thunderbolt ports, but i don't know if they're compatible with the specific version I have in my imac, which is thunderbolt 1. I can't find the answers in google, and in my desperation i've turned to all you tech nerds. HELP ME. also dont ask why im connecting a gaming monitor to a 2013 imac (i'll give more details and info if you ask for it in the replies, please just help me TwT)

The Thunderbolt ports on your iMac are also compatible with DisplayPort devices. Any miniDP to HDMI or DisplayPort adapter will work just fine. You could even just use a miniDP to HDMI or DisplayPort cable if you wanted to.
