It's a normal day in the house, working on a photo shop project. Out of the sudden, my windows lagged, my speakers make some long noises, then my PC automatically restarted itself into the BIOS. All of this happened in a minute and I didn't even touch any hardware part.

My bios was already identifying my hardware parts correctly but it wasn't showing me the boot order which was weird to me, I looked up for a solution and it was turning off secure boot and turning on CSM. my boot order was showing after that and my ssd (which had windows 11) was my #1 in boot order. I booted into that but all I got was blank screen with a '_' cursor and stayed like this forever.

I created a windows 11 installation usb and booted into it to try to do startup recovery. Here's the surprising part, windows didn't detect windows on the system. I tried listing drivers using command prompt and it did show me all my drivers, including my SSD which had 100% free storage. It has been completely wiped out.

I'm going crazy, what the heck just happened to my SSD? Was it a virus? Did the power supply deliver too much voltage to the ssd?

How come it was wiped just like that in a random moment? My data is gone now but I want to prevent that from happening again.

It might be because of CSM. I'm not really sure tho.

Had pretty much the same problem on Windows 11, but didn't bother to recover the install and just went back to Windows 10 lol

I also had many more issues on Windows 11 (on stable release) that haven't been fixed since the first Dev build, which made me hold on to Windows 10 for longer.

Sounds like the SSD just failed.

Might want to boot a linux live USB and see if it's there, if not try it in another computer to see if it's recognised - if still nothing it just died. Happens...

Yup it was completely empty, nothing inside. But I installed a fresh windows on it so it was still alive. The whole thing doesn't make any sense. Would've actually accepted it better if it was dead, but now I don't know if it will keep doing that again or not.

It could be just corrupted GPT, or just NTFS partition itself, but now that you already installed windows on it, we won't know.
