SD card question

My Micro sd card in my New 3DS XL just died and I am wondering if the wear leveling would extend beyond the 32GB FAT(I think, I am pretty sure they don't use exFAT on the 3DS family) partition that the 3DS family is limited to and so extend the life of the new card. The price difference between the cards I'm looking at isn't horrible and I would actually be able to get some back up cards on sale. I'm just not sure if the 3DS is in charge of the the wear leveling and trim and everything because it's Nintendo and they only just recently figured out that ethernet ports are how people use hardwired internet for the most part and I don't know much about the controllers on SD cards either
