Need help

A friend of mine got a laptop some time ago and it is a good one but the screen went black. So we took a flashlight and realized it was the backlight that was out and the image was still there. I am thinking it is a fuse on the motherboard. Is there anywhere in Vancouver (lower mainland) that could fix something like this? the one place Canadian Computers didn't wanna touch it. She doesn't have a lot of money and on disability and saved a lot for it. Its basically hooked up to a TV right now and that is how she can use it. I am willing to put in a little myself to help if it is an expensive repair. And yes we tried ordering a screen replacement and it still didn't work. Any suggestions or anything would be great

You could either contact the manufacturer, or use the warranty if it has any. I obviously don't live in Vancouver, so I'm not sure about stores.
