First PC Build. Trying to determine how many cores for my cpu. I will be gaming a little but for the majority it will be used for work. I will be creating virtual machines. I will be logging into virtual machines using a hyper visor and working remotely from home on a secure vpn. Trying to determine if 8 cores is enough, overkill or if i need more as i will be multi tasking.

No photo editing or video editing. Mostly gaming, youtube, ms teams/webex virtual machines and networking. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Should be enough, with 2 cores extra for an extra instance for hosting, but its tight. Consider getting more for your buck with 5900x 12/24 or 10850k 10/20.

Do I understand correctly that you will be creating VM in which you will be using to connect to and work on a remote system?

I'll have my normal os. Then

log into my work vm to run applications and complete tasks.

I will also remote into other peoples computers from that vm.

I'll also be creating a few vms for personal use and some gaming. Games like red dead and cyber punk and warzone

I was thinking an 8 core processor. 12 might be overkill.
