Ubuntu on USB

Go to solution Solved by Szyszqu,

I recently bought a pendrive and I wanted to install bootable Ubuntu on it. I used program called Rufus to get the image file on my pendrive. Then I booted it from Bios and began the instalation process. Everything was ok but now I have to choose type of the instalation.

-Installing Ubuntu alongside Windows

-Wiping the disk and installing ubuntu

-Using a different solution

I think you need to take this middle option but I don't know if this erasing feature only applies to the disk where I am installing ubuntu or to all of my drives. I wouldn't want to lose my data from all the drives. Can you huys help me?

You've burned the installation iso to the pendrive, making it a bootable Ubuntu installer rather than an installation.

The next step someone more versed will have to answer 😉

You just want to test ubuntu, right? By utilizing the flash drive as the boot device instead of your hard drives?

1) if you really want to be safe, unplug your drives that have data on them. Once you fully understand what's going on, this isn't necessary.

2) https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows#1-overview

It's possible at some point you accidentally hit enter and selected something about "installing" rather than "trying ubuntu".

But I don't want to try it, I want to install it on my USB
