'Reboot and select proper boot device' error message

Working on a friends PC, it wont boot and goes straight to the 'Reboot and select proper boot device' error message. I have set the proper drive in the proper start order and still wont work. I have disconnected the other two unneeded drives and cleaned the connectors for the SSD (Radeon R7) that is not working. The drive is recognized in the boot manager, but still no go. I checked and replaced the CMOS battery just out of chance with no luck. Now, the issue is he does not have the windows installation media the came with it. The rig and drive are 6 years old or so. The motherboard is a Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5 with an i7-4790.

I told him I think either the drive or the OS got corrupted, but with out the installation media I cant do much more than put a new SSD and OS in, and the hope to recover some files after we got the comp working. Am I missing something that I should check?
