So I cant update my AMD drivers without updating windows, but when I update windows my PC freezes about half way through and doesnt do anything even if left for 5 hours.

When I restarted the PC it uninstalled the update and works fine again.

How can I update? I assume I need to provide some logs but I dont know where to start

Why not? Even current recent amd drivers work on very old version of windows 10.

Just download a recent one for your card and install that first?

Worst case scenario you use DDU (display driver uninstaller) and full remove the current amd driver that way and the update windows.

Oh really? Maybe its because i'm using Radeon? I thought thats the only way to install AMD drivers now.

My gfx card is RX480 8gb strix - currently on version 20.11.1 (2020) , newest update is 21.7.2 (2021)

Other than being on a very old version nothing is wrong. I do think the latest version does not support 1803 any more so a update of windows is needed. What I recommend you do is DDU the driver and then immediately after the restart make windows instal updates.

This solved everything. Thanks so much

Glad that fixed it. I had my suspicions that a faulty driver was holding the update back due to it having compatibility/stability issues in the newer version of 10.
