Recently i updated the BIOS on my laptop(Asus ROG Strix GL503GE - i7-8750h, 1050ti), and now when i try to undervolt CPU in ThrottleStop, the sliders and modifiers are locked and i can't change anything: https://pasteboard.co/KaPg2sn.png . I read that recent BIOS updates remove the option to undervolt the CPU, so my question is - is there another way to undervolt it, and if not, how can i safely reset my BIOS to an old version which allows me to undervolt the CPU? The only previous version available in Asus's website is from 2018 and im not sure if is safe to try to install it.

I have to bump this thread as I have exactly the same problem, on an Asus TUF FX504GM.

You don’t have to bump it, you could create just new thread. Anyway most laptops this days don’t let you undervolt or overclock anything, is there any reason why you want to do it?

@kristalshards Here is the method that works on many Dell laptops to unlock CPU voltage control.

Many modern laptops run at over 90°C while the fans constantly scream. Undervolting the CPU reduces power consumption and heat and makes poorly designed laptops with inadequate cooling almost bearable. That is usually why people do this.

Many MSI laptops include an advanced BIOS so you can easily unlock voltage control. This works great on 11th Gen CPUs too like the 11800H. Undervolting is still alive and well. Users have been using software for at least 15 years to undervolt their laptops. If Asus was more enthusiast friendly, they could easily add a simple option to unlock CPU voltage control to their BIOS like MSI has done.

I understand basic concept why ppl doing it, I’ve done it before as well, I was asking OP why he want to do it, is his temps high?
I have Gigabyte laptop atm, temps are good under the load so I don’t see any point in undervolting

Not sure why they don’t, is it type of idot proofing measure just in case the ppl strat playing with the settings they not supposed to play with, and than reporting the laptop broke? Maybe. If that’s the case they could easily release bios just for enthusiasts which know what they doing.

There was some Intel security that was patched sometimes over the last year with new Bios... this might be the issue and maybe you can't revert to an older one...

What you mean why? Why do you think people are undervolting their laptops anyway? Cause the temps are terrible and it's making this machine thermal throttle which means terrible output in terms of FPS during gaming.

I have just discovered this happen to my ASUS GL703GM today as well, literally within the last hour and found this post because of it. I have gained a huge performance increase by undervolting my cpu by -173mv. By lowering my turbo (4.2 to 3.9) my system wouldn't thermal throttle as fast and as bad and only go down to 3.4ghz. Now with stock settings it throttles immediately and falls all the way to 2.9ghz. BOOOOOOOOO! I have read online though that turning back you bios to and older version should unlock the settings again. I am going to try rolling back to v311 from v314 that I am using now and if that works I will post on here again with my results.
