Hi All,

I am having issues with my MSI RTX2080 Gaming X Trio

One night I was playing games and the fans started spinning at 100% after a couple of hours of games. Ever since that moment almost as soon as I start playing a game the fans spin at max.

I noticed it would happen between 68 degrees to 75 degrees ‘usually’. I ran FurMark to try and replicate the issue and I couldn’t get the fans to spin loudly despite the GPU core temp being at about 73 degrees. I found this weird. After playing around with Furmark settings, I enabled Xtreme Burn-in, Post-FX and other options to increase the workload. When I ran the burn-in test, the fans did spin to 100% again but the card was running at 72 degrees. After a bit of playing around I opened GPU-Z and realised the memory was running at 105 degrees during this test. When I switched it back to the original Furmark test the memory was only at 80 degrees. I thought this was clearly the issue, so I took my card out and taken it to the place I work (where I bought the card from) and tried my card on our test bench. I ran the exact same benchmark with the same settings in my computer on the test bench, and we couldn’t get the memory to go past 80 degrees.

I am lost with what I should do because we need to replicate the fault to send the card away for repair but there is no fault on the test bench.

For troubleshooting I tried;

Uninstalled all software that could interfere with Overclocking, fan speeds etc. (MSI Dragon Centre, Geforce Experience, Afterburner)

DDU driver uninstall and reinstall using 2 older drivers.

Fresh install of windows with driver and furmark.

Fresh install of windows with driver (no geforce experience or internet connection) and furmark.

Airflow isn’t an issue. I have a Lian Li O11D Mini case with 11x Noctua Chromax fans. 3 Intake (bottom), 4 exhaust (top & rear), 4 exhaust (side radiator push/pull). Temps for everything else is sub 65 degrees.

Since all of this i have installed MSI afterburner and limited the cards power limit to 80% which let's the GPU memory reach around 90 degrees but also has a performance hit for games. Personally, I don't think I should have to handicap my card for it to function as it should but I don't know what I should do. Does anyone have an idea or has come across this before?

My other components are as below;

i9-10850k

32gb G.skill ripjaws

MSI MPG z490 Gaming Plus

RTX2080 MSI Gaming X Trio Video Card

Cheers,

Jay
