Hello,

I have noticed a weird effect that happens on some displays when they are displaying a large pattern in which the pixel brightness varies greatly for example a black and white checkerboard pattern.

I have tested multiple displays with different panels (TN, VA and IPS). Most tested displays have shown a faded/ghostly repetition of the checkerboard pattern. You can see that effect in the uploaded image.

This effect seems fairly common and I want to know if there's a name for it and what causes it.

On the one VA panel display I have tested (Samsung Odyssey G7 27'') this effect was very annoying and also sometimes happened when playing games or doing other stuff. Even the background image of Star Citizen launcher causes this effect. It's different from other displays as it effects the whole display, so this might just be a problem with this specific display.

To test this for yourself just download the checkerboard image I uploaded here and open it in any image viewer then drag the window across different background colors (dark gray works well). Just make sure your image viewer isn't scaling/zooming in the image.

I am pretty sure that is just the LEDs and/or pixels on the monitor. If you are seeing that on a lot of monitors and results vary on each I think this is the case. I might not be right, but logic says that this is just normal. There's nothing wrong with the monitors. Nothing can cause something like especially on multiple monitors.

That picture might not be the best. At a distance you can clearly see a difference in color of the pixels even though the background is the same color.
