Will it need a BIOS update? Maybe. Can you do it without a CPU? No. It doesn't have flashback.

 

If you do have to do an update, you can contact AMD. They will actually mail you and older CPU to do it with. You can also generally take it to a retailer that has a technical support function like Best Buy or Micro Center, or a computer repair shop should be able to help you out for relatively cheap.
