When I built this RIG I through in the 10900K until the 11th gen came out. I since have installed the 11700k to open up the top M2 slot and gain gen 4.

Now it seems I have shuddering in games and Photoshop or even DaVinci. All systems says everything is running fine. I have a few small errors in event viewer but nothing to answer this question.

Is this chip a waist of sand as creators are saying? Should I put the 10850k back in and run with it because 11th gen is sh1t?

I had problems with replacing a Comet Lake with Rocket Lake, but a new mobo sorted it out in my case (old mobo stuck on old microcode). Since you're on latest gen mobo my problem isn't likely the same as your problem. If you haven't already, check and update mobo bios, and related low level drivers where available.

It might be a pain, but it could just be "a windows thing" where it doesn't quite get that hardware has changed. A clean install might help. If you have a spare drive then you could do that as a test without affecting the current install.

The "waste of sand" comment is a waste of electrons.

Why did you replace an 11 month old i9 with an i7???

If you can, just return the 11700k.

Well I purchased all the parts for the 11th gen but simply couldn't wait to build it. So I bought a 10850k to make the build. Then when they came out I bought the 17 11700k so I can have all 4 lanes open for the M.2 Drives. Two of which are gen 4 speeds with the 11gen CPU.

How ever the 11th Gen CPU's seem to be junk but if I go back tp the 10850 I loose my top M.2 Lan3. I Know I still have 3 left but the gen 4 speeds are nice.

You know you might have a good idea. I was thinking a new install of OS. I could always install on the 1st M.2 lane that has a gen 4 Samsung drive.

I have the latest drivers in every thing and windows updates. I have tried so many things its not funny. The last would be OS install. Cant hurt. I just may give it a shot it only take like 15 min.

It's  likely that your gen 4 drive may not be hitting a bandwith cap anyway depending on your use case.

Why would you say that? I am getting great speeds. Maybe not the best but lane one is hitting 6616 Read and 4964 W that's not bad and lane two is only a number off. I used Samsung Magician to run benchmarks.

Also I did re install the OS and so far she is running great.

It just depends on your use case, and what is the bottleneck. If you see your storage speed in real world tasks go above the speed the pcie 3.0 bandwith, then it is worth keeping the 11700k in there

Yeah I know what your saying but I do a lot of video and photo editing, so it helps to be slightly faster.
