Hello, I have been having a very annoying problem while trying to do downloads like on steam. I have a 1 Terabyte TeamGroup GX2 Sata SSD (I dont think this has to do with the problem though). Whenever I start a download my disk usage climbs up to 100% and sits around there and the download starts to go slow. I have tried methods like stopping superfetch and defragmenting my drive to no avail. Is this a normal thing or is there a fix for it? My downloads used to not shoot up to 100% disk usage and would go smoothly and quickly. Also, I do not think it has anything to do with my internet because I have speedtested it and it is working just fine on my phone as well. Any Ideas?

Sata SSD

dont defrag an SSD, it doesnt do good and only use up write cycles

how full is the SSD?

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Well, I have about 310 GB free on the SSD, and thanks for the info on defragging. Is there any kind of way to reverse the defragging or is it permanent?

defrag is just the process to group up scattered files so they're together for quicker access times on HDD

it's fine if you done it once, just dont do it again (it's not something that will continue to harm the SSD, just something that "harms" it while it's defragging)

so about 70% full, so shouldnt be a problem

i can only speculate that the game files are compressed and your pc is accessing those files to decompress them

other than that, no clue

you can download CrystalDiskInfo (not crystaldiskmark) to check disk health

I do have an SSD smart tool which did a scan similar to crystaldiskmark and it said that the disk was healthy. I guess I will just assume that it is a normal thing then?

So two things. First, this is a DRAMless drive, which means it's probably using an SLC cache to get to its rated speed. That cache, though, is usually relatively small, and once you exhaust it, speeds fall off a cliff. Second you're more than 2/3 full, which assuming this is a TLC drive, means you're now writing exclusively to the last and slowest bit of each cell.

AH yes thank you very much, I have heard about DRAM cache or something of the like and I understand what you mean. I will attempt to free some storage and see if this solves the issue. I have a bunch of random games lying around anyway that I dont really play like Warzone. Thanks so much for the help, I would have never thought of this myself. Much gratitude sir.
