GPU or Motherboard problem?

GeorgeKellow

Hi everyone,

I have an issue and it starting to concern me a little.

Everytime I place something on my desk or walk around my office both of my monitors flash. I can put my hand on my gpu and slightly move it and it starts to flash more (On and off it).

GPU: 6800

Could it be the slot is damaged?

It could be, but my money is on the card getting damaged over time. My roommate literally just had that exact same thing happen. His graphics card was not adequately supported in his case so it sagged. Eventually the sagging damaged the connector on the card enough that it just died. I would recommend bracing your card and seeing if that fixes the problem.

JayzTwoCents has a video on this. I'm willing to bet the culprit is static electricity and nothing else. The monitors are flashing when you move the GPU because, well, you aren't really supposed to be doing that while the PC is on.

Watch the whole video and see if you are having the same issues. If you aren't then at that point I'd say its maybe the GPU or MOBO. Hoping for the best though so I hope its just static!

@DGB has a point. If you experience a lot of static shocks, then that may be the culprit. I stand by my first post if you don't.

How would it be static shocks if I am placing like a LTT bottle of water on the desk?

I was going down the route of the vibration of it? idk lol
