No Bootable device found?????????????????

My hard drive is making a weird noise. I shut my computer off, disconnected the hard drive and rebooted my computer. It said that there is no bootable device even though my nvme is my bootable device. I checked the BIOS and it said that the nvme is the first bootable device. I connected the hard drive back (fully wiped with no data on it. I recently backed up my data because of the noise and deleted everything on the HDD) and it booted up. What should I do?

Sounds like your HDD was going bad, losing boot sectors possibly.

 

You're doing what you should do.  Boot off the NVMe.

 

What else ya need?

Thats what I did. In the BIOS, the Boot #1 is my NVME. Its saying to boot off a bootable device when I disconnect the HDD.

When you remove the HDD< the BIOS doesn't see the NME drive at all?

Un plug the HDD

Go in your BIOS and make sure your CSM is disabled.

 

If it fails, give us the rundown on your MOBO make and model, your CPU and your NVME drive.

So when you put the hdd back in place, it boots again?
Did you have both drives attached when you installed windows by chance? Because the windows installer does this weird thing where it scatters the boot information across all drives. I've seen it before. The chances are that part of the boot sequence is sitting on that hdd and thats why it wont boot without it.

But the drive is wiped with no data on it.

Yup, when installing windows with more than one drive connected during install Windows may not install the bootloader to the drive you choose to install to. The bootloader is needed to boot your OS.

 

Windows10 will put the bootloader on the first drive it finds during install. To prevent this only have one drive connected during installation.

 

To fix you need to boot to win10 installation media and create a new efi partition and bootloader on your nvme drive. Instructions here
