Yes, but you simply won't be getting those PCI 4.0 speeds off it. It would be the same as running a graphics card supporting PCI-E 4.0 in an older motherboard with older gen PCI-E or vice versa. It works most of the time, you're just not getting the full benefits.

I have Dell G7 7590 Gaming Laptop. I had installed AORUS Gen4 SSD 1TB GP-AG41TB for 2 times and its work fine for aprox 5 hour after that the laptop got shuddenly off both the times. When i try to power on it again, it showing that the the bootable device is not found, When i checked the ssd it was become dead both the times.

Not quite. There's no graphics card that actually even fully saturates PCIe 3.0, so there's no performance penalty for running a PCIe 4.0 graphics card in a PCIe 3.0 slot.

That is not the case with a PCIe 4.0 drive. You will literally get half the speed of the drive if you put it in a 3.0 slot. PCIe is fully forward and backwards compatible, so you can always run in a lower version slot. It will work, you just won't get the rated speeds.

You should only get a PCIe 4.0 drive, though, if you intend to actually upgrade to a CPU/mobo combination that supports PCIe 4.0 in the near future. Otherwise, it's just a waste of money. These super fast drives are 1.5-2x the cost of PCIe 3.0 drives, and there's absolutely no benefit to getting them if you can't run them at full speed.

I'd have a hard time telling you where the problem lies, friend. For me the NVMe's are a rather new thing and as far as my interactions have gone I've done two X570 chipset rigs where a Gen4 NVMe is running on a motherboard with PCI-E 4.0 support and another B550 rig that's running a Gen3 NVMe in a PCI-E 4.0 slot. Never had any issues with them.

@Chris Pratt Well I suppose I stepped on that landmine myself when I used that example. I had a feeling we were going to reach the debate of whether PCI-E 4.0 is even fully utilized these days by graphics cards, but for the sake of argument - put a 2080Ti in an older motherboard with Gen 2 PCI-E slots. Most casual gamers might not even notice a difference, but you know it is there.

Yeah, and it's not the point here anyways, but PCIe 2.0 is an entirely different situation. Games saturate that pretty easily. We just haven't crossed over exceeding PCIe 3.0.
