Hi,

For once I'm facing an issue I cannot fix and have no idea how I should troubleshoot it ... so hopefully someone here has a good idea to bootstrap the diagnostic. ^^

I have a customized gaming laptop that is now 6 years old. It is still running fine but since a few months specific games won't run and crash when starting them, including games I already run previously. I listed below the latest games I tried. It is not a stability issue, it either work or do not work at all. Valheim put the GPU at 90% load permanent and run for multiple hours without problems (except for the heat 😇).

Material :

Windows 8.1 64 bits

Intel i7-4710MQ (with HD graphics 4600)

Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M (details GPUz attached)

Nvidia driver : 465.89, same issues with some previous version of this year.

16Gb RAM

Games tried working : Minecraft, Valheim, Fall guys

Games tried not working : Deus ex mankind divided (error at launch) , world of tanks (error, see below, was fine up to january 2021), 911 operator (not responding loading screen)

example running WoT :

Thinking it was some nvidia driver issue, I already uninstalled fully the graphic drivers :

in safe mode

* in the device manager right clic "uninstall" and selecting "delete device driver"

* uninstalling nvidia programs from "add/remove program"

* reinstalling it from scratch the nvidia website

=> I end up with the exact same issue.

I'm not sure were to look next or how to diagnose. Looks like it is tied to a feature or requirement rather than a material issue because it is 100% repeatable and 911 operator is not a game that requires lot of horse power 🤔 ... GPUz confirms games try to use it as I see a bump in GPU frequency when trying to open WoT, even though it crashes after 1s.

Any ideas or diagnostic program I could run to dig on this ?

I found various tool to help clean drivers even deeper but some look sketchy ... I prefer to ask than run unknown exe.

Thanks.

Hum, guess it is tougher than I expected ...

I tried two streaming softwares also, none work.

using OBS : I have an error.

using twitch studio : I have a wonderfull black box instead of the GUI.

That remembers me that I had the same issue a few weeks ago on discord. The UI was totally grey without controls, but the sound was working when it auto-joined a channel. Someone insinuated encoding is not done by the GPU but by the CPU. Is it true ? Should I check some intel stuff rather than Nvidia ?

Thx.
