I presume Windows 10 OS here.

Clean the PC.

-View show hidden folders

-Go to your Windows 10 user profile: \AppData\Local\Temp --> clean the Temp folder of all files if possible.

-Run a program like "ccleaner" to clean registry and other temp files off the computer including browser caches

-I also use Spybot search & destroy to clean additional data

The above may get rid of unwanted or malicious programs causing the fault.

Reboot the PC.

Check Windows 10 updates.

The problem most like lies in unrelease memory.

Use your Task Manger to force close multiple programs.

Try in Windows 10 search bar "start up apps"  and turn all apps off for Windows startup to free up memory.  Reboot

Last thing I would do is reformat.  Try to save your data if at all possible.  Sometimes its inevitable.
