Hello, I am wanting to do a full recovery on an old PC(about 6 yrs old) that upgraded itself from Windows 8.1 to 10 by itself.  Ever since the the PC upgraded it has given me error pop ups and runs slow.  I have a new PC on the way, but would like to see if I can do a full recovery on the old one to see if it helps it run smoother.  Do I need to find recovery files for Windows 8 or 10?  I still have the Windows 8 disc I bought when I built the PC?  Should this help or ruin the PC?

Other issues I have had.

Now tells me date/time is not setup when turning on PC

Would turn itself on randomly.  I usually keep it unplugged so not much of an issue.  Is it bad to keep PC unplugged when not in use?

Thanks for any help!

When you build the new PC that's on the way, it will be with a brand new fresh install of windows so you can avoid any software issues. Don't hot swap the old drive. Plug it in for a storage drive and just retrieve the information you want from it.

If you don't have a W10 key yet, install W10 with the ethernet unplugged.

Try a fresh install of Win10.

An upgrade to a better drive could help too, what is in it meow.

Old Model) Seagate 1TB Desktop HDD Sata 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive (ST1000DM003)

Is this what you mean?  Don't know much about parts, someone made me the list of parts. I just bought everything and put it together.

That should be fine but you would see an improvement with an SSD.

Just try a clean install and see what happens.

Ok. So I would need to buy Windows 10?  Will that wipe everything on the PC?  I don't mind if it does, just need to know if I need to back up anything important. Thanks for your help.
